Golfing and Shopping in NWA

by David Tyler Mills

Ask anybody who has been through it.  Shopping for a home consumes a lot of time when you try to please everyone in the household.  Shopping for me in general, rather it’s for clothes or groceries, is too much of a hassle for me.  I blame it on the Y chromosome.  I see what I like, go to the store, grab it, and leave.  Show me something I like; I’ll buy it.  Done.

Ladies are a little bit different.  I can skip my exercise for the day if I plan on going to the mall with a girl.  I literary put on a jogging suit, do my stretches, and fill my water bottle before facing this marathon women like to call “shopping.”  Even then, you’ll find me slumping in a chair in Warren’s Shoes trying to catch a second wind.

“Where is this going, Tyler?”  Ladies, do you want to shorten the decision making process with your husband?  Tell him there’s a golf course near.  Boom!  He’s sold.  You’re welcome.

Here is a list of all the golf courses in Northwest Arkansas provided by Northwest Arkansas Now.  Check it out here!   If you see a home in Bella Vista, Pea Ridge, Rogers, Lowell, Springdale, Johnson, Fayetteville, Siloam Springs, or Farmington with a golf course near, then give us a call to set an appointment!

“Tyler!  You have no idea what you’re talking about!  As the man in the household, I decide where we live!”  Well, calm down sir.  Maybe this will help put your wife at ease.  Here are some of the biggest shopping malls in Northwest Arkansas

Searching for that new home is an exciting, but when your efforts aren’t fruitful and time is wasted, then it can be stressful.  That’s why we urge you to utilize our search tool to help save you time.  Happy house hunting!

You'll Never Guess Who I Just Met...

by David Tyler Mills

When I came into work this morning, I could tell Terri was in a good mood.  I just didn’t anticipate the degree of her happiness.  It was 9:37 am, which meant time for our full throttle meeting.  Our team gathered around to discuss their intent for the day and to compliment each other on the hard work from yesterday.  To our surprise, Trevor Lavy, Owner of Priority Bank in Fayetteville, and Kelli Franks, Vice President of the Secondary Market of Priority Bank, came over with a surprise guest.  This wasn’t just any guest, no.  Only the greatest Arkansas Razorback coach of all time, Frank Broyles, walks into the lobby in all his glory.  I giggle like a little girl as he introduces himself to me.

We tried to astound the coach by sharing how we differentiate ourselves from our other real estate firms.  I would like to believe the coach was impressed, but it’s kind of difficult to amaze the coach with our strategy when he knows a thing or two about strategy already (and has a national championship to prove it.)  However, I did witness a smile appear on his face when we presented him with our personal version of a championship trophy, the 35 Year Anniversary of McNaughton Real Estate.

We must be doing something right since the real estate market has taken a hit through these past several years.  Coach Broyles was able to discern what we were doing correctly.  Preparation, flexibility, and understanding our competition were the three primary advantages that the coach noticed.  For 35 years, McNaughton Real Estate has effectively prepared for anything good or bad that the market deals to us.  We’ve been able to be flexible when adapting to new regulations and technology throughout the years.  Additionally, understanding our competition effectively has helped with reconditioning our core competencies and values.

I was upset to see the Coach Broyles leave the office.  It happened so fast!  However, it was satisfying to scratch another wish off my bucket list.  As you can image afterwards, the mood started to subside when he left, but it didn’t affect Terri.  Suddenly, she announces how she is going to drop the prices for four of her listings by $24,000.

What?!  I kid you not.  Check it out.

414 Spring Cliff

by David Tyler Mills

I think a new McNaughton Real Estate record has been set.  Before I could even finish posting the pictures to this extravagant home, I already had a comment on our Facebook page within TWO minutes of editing.  I really shouldn’t be that surprised thought.  414 Spring Cliff is a sight to behold.

The front yard alone really makes this home pop.  Sitting on 1.790 acres, you’ll think you were walking in a park lined with towering trees.   The shade provides some much needed comfort for mowing on those hot summer days.  The spacious living room has an inviting tile fireplace with cleverly installed accent lighting, portraying a nice centerpiece for the room.  When walking into the eat-in kitchen, the large cabinets greet you with ample storage, and the tan ceramic countertops contribute to the overall warmth of the room.  The massive master bedroom flows flawlessly into a double sink bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub.  Another one of the bedrooms can make a shopaholic’s dreams come true with a grand walk-in closet.  Here are some other amazing features:

  • 4 Bedrooms
  • 3 Bathrooms
  • 2 Stories
  • Huge Porch in Front of the Entire House
  • Pole Barn
  • Detached 2 Car Garage

The pictures for this home are remarkable.  Check them out on our Facebook page at Terri Lynn McNaughton Realtors.  Be sure to “Like” our page in order to update you on any other beautiful homes in Northwest Arkansas.

House vs Home

by David Tyler Mills

My dad and I are too completely different individuals.  He has a menagerie of animals in his man lair.  If you look closely, you might see two little horns (and I’m using horns loosely here) mounted somewhere amongst the trophy bucks.  Yeah, those are mine.  My dad has been doing construction all of his life.  It took me a whole summer to figure out how to use a Metabo® slicer without it flying out of my hands.  I have the scars to prove it.  He loves the great outdoors, and I try to like it half as much as he does.

One of my favorite childhood memories is whenever my dad finally convinced me to go camping with him.  He knew a great spot up the Ouachita River where we could set up camp right on the river banks.  Now, don’t get me wrong; I do like camping, but this was during the time when video games were getting so popular.  Thankfully, I found a happy medium between video games and the outdoors, a portable Nintendo Game Boy ®.  At the time, I didn’t think my dad knew I brought it.  Now I know my parents are a lot smarter than I thought they were.

Nevertheless, we all have our moments.  My dad thought it would be a great idea to use a mesh covering, which are usually used to keep mosquitos away while you’re eating, as our tent.  Not a bad idea in theory.  Our previous camping trips were always great until it was time to go asleep in those muggy tents.  Unfortunately, my dad failed to check the weather, and a huge thunder storm completely interrupted that beautiful day.  Since the ceiling of our mesh tent was immensely smaller than the base of the tent, we had to huddle all of his gear (and my Game Boy) to the center.  With our boat flooded, we were forced to survive.

As I get older, moments like that remind me of the difference between a house and a home.  A house can be composed of wood, brick, and metal, but a home can be a raggedy mesh tent trying to survive a storm.  I knew my dad wouldn’t let anything happen to me during that storm, so I wasn’t afraid.  To me, home is a safe place where I can grow as a person.  I felt like at some point when I put away my Game Boy and helped my dad through this catastrophe, I grew as a man.  Well, closer to a man anyways.  I still need my dad’s help to take a brim off my hook every now and then, but my dad helped me develop a lot of character that night in that mesh tent.

When I write about a house, I never use the word “house.”  I always use “home” (if I don’t, then you caught a typo.)   I know what you’re thinking, “What a great sales technique…”  It’s nothing like that.  I’ve noticed that each of our Realtors® truly get an understanding of our clients and their families.  We actually receive a sense of what “home” is for each of these families.  Features and benefits come in second when it comes to selling a home or finding you a new place to grow.  Don’t worry though.  We’re not going to try to sell you a mesh tent.
